On the final day of the Design Inspiration seminar at this year's Hospitality Show three experts in the field of AV, acoustics and music took to the stage; Rob Wood of Music Concierge provided ample examples to prove that music selection can have a direct impact on customer spend and Paul Trew of Acoustics & Noise illustrated how, with a little expert wizardry, venue acoustics can be radically improved in (almost) all environments. The third speaker, Chris Gunton of CGA Integration, who chaired the discussion, told the audience how perfect sound can be achieved in meeting rooms, lobbies, conference spaces, bars and restaurants and how, if installed early enough, it can be invisibly integrated into any design scheme.
One thought occurred to me during this fascinating presentation: sound plays a hugely important role in helping to provide the right environment in all public spaces. It is every bit as important as say light, colour or temperature in providing an ambient setting and influencing customer mood and spend. So why do so many operators fail to invest in getting the appropriate system and music provision? Perhaps it's time for venue owners to pay attention and listen very carefully!
